OUR History

A legacy of advocacy, empowerment,

and community impact since 1991.

Founded in 1991, Pueblo y Salud, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization serving Los Angeles County with a focus on substance use prevention, civic participation, health, and culture.

For over three decades, we have worked to empower communities, influence policy, and create lasting change.

1988 The Beginning

Policy work begins through the Latino Coalition

on Alcohol Issues, introducing one of the first environmental alcohol prevention models

in Los Angeles County.

1991 Officially Incorporated

Pueblo y Salud becomes an official nonprofit

organization, expanding its mission across

Los Angeles County.

Civic Impact

PyS has educated and registered over 53,000

voters in the San Fernando Valley, empowering

communities to make their voices heard.

Education & Technology

Through literacy and computer training programs, PyS provided youth and families with essential skills, from ESL learning to advanced computing, opening doors to education and opportunity.

Policy & Advocacy

Since 1997, PyS has led major public health efforts, helping pass critical tobacco-related policies, including:

• Tobacco retailer licensing

• Smoke-free parks and housing

• Restrictions on advertising

• Elimination of vending machines and free samples
